The Thermodynamics of Thawing

The Thermodynamics of Thawing

They tell you love warms the soul, but physics tells a colder truth: heat transfer requires contact. Standing here amidst these jagged shards of blue glass that pass for icebergs on this black sand beach, I am perfectly insulated by my silver shell and perfect posture.

The wind bites at exposed skin with zero sentimentality, mocking all those romantic notions about freezing hearts waiting to be melted. But then he arrives—late, disheveled, smelling of expensive coffee and desperation—and that's when the game changes. He doesn't offer a glass slipper; he offers his jacket.

It’s not magic if you understand it's just two warm bodies trying to trick nature into keeping us alive long enough for breakfast. As we huddle closer, pressing chest against back, I realize this metallic puffer isn't armor anymore. It's a cage waiting to be unzipped.
