The Gilded Reflection: A City Conquered by One Smile

The Gilded Reflection: A City Conquered by One Smile

The city breathes in neon, a chaotic beast tamed by the light of one giant screen. I stand before it, not as an audience member, but as its queen. My reflection looms above me—a titaness of gold and sequins—while my own gown whispers against the pavement with every step. The wind steals through my hair, messy and wild, a stark contrast to the perfect composition on the billboard behind me.

He is watching from somewhere in that steel forest below, perhaps pulling strings I don't know exist. In this world of glass towers and cold ambition, we are two predators playing at being lovers. But tonight, under his gaze projected into the sky, there is a dangerous warmth. He bought out the billboard just to remind me who owns my heart—or maybe to show himself what he's captured.

I smile back up at the giant version of myself, knowing that somewhere in those dark windows, another pair of eyes mirrors mine. It’s not love; it’s possession wrapped in silk and light. And I let him have it.
