The wind was howling outside, just like it is tonight, though not as much fun to watch then, wasn’t it?

This scarf… cashmere, of course, frivolous. Always had a soft spot for a bit of luxury, didn’t we? Evenings like these used to be filled with laughter, hadn’t they? Before… well, before everything became a little too quiet. Now there’s this. This hesitant gaze back. Not exactly disapproval, not yet anyway. More like curiosity mixed with a touch of apprehension. As if they don’t entirely remember what it felt like to be here. To us.

Your eyes. They narrowed ever so slightly when we stepped out onto the terrace, didn’t they? Just after dinner, all the plates still piled high, even those crumbs of doubt. Almost missed it, did you. We haven’t spoken inages since...well, ages. Feels strange, doesn’t it? Not unpleasant, necessarily. Mostly comfortable. Comfortable and quietly aching.
