Okay, let’s hear those voices! Here's our Monologue -

Here we go…

“There, isn’t it?” We’re close enough to smell each other’s scent – faintly familiar dust motes and cedarwood, probably his, though sometimes ours bled through too. This scarf, cashmere, of course, ridiculously expensive for something so often draped carelessly around our necks. It smells vaguely of rain, maybe one of the nights back in Florence...or was it Paris? Details always blur after a while, don’t they? Not that we ever minded much about blurring things.

Your eyes were here, weren’t they? Just settling, not quite judging. Not yet. Though there wasn’t much judgment, really, never truly did, except perhaps for when he didn't notice the way the light caught your hair that autumn. A beautiful mess, that hair, all tousled curls and golden sheen. Like everything else was effortlessly perfect, if only you knewed where to look.

We haven’t spoken in ages, of course. More years than that, likely, but it feels like ages anyway. Just this quiet today then, doesn’t it? The same gentle pressure of the armchair beneath us, the faintest warmth of the firelight reflecting off the silver bracelet on your wrist - a gift, obviously loved, rarely worn anymore. Or maybe that’s just nostalgia talking.

You tilted your head earlier, hadn’t you? Subtle thing, a slight turn of the neck, almost imperceptible. And us, we looked away, naturally. No need to be obvious, not exactly. Too many questions hanging in the air, aren’”
