“There.” That’s what he said, didn’t it? ‘Just need a little more light.’ Always needing something from us, hadn't there? Not necessarily bad, never truly bad, just...always there. The expectation of it all, humming beneath the surface of everything, like the hum of the refrigerator downstairs. And the way the wine always smelled faintly of disappointment after midnight.

This scarf has been through so much, hasn’t it? Silk crepe, expensive then, perfectly acceptable now, when it matters most – which is tonight, usually. So go ahead, take our picture. Notice the light catching the dust motes dancing in the room, notice the faintest trace of perfume, a ghost of him, probably. Let’s see if you can catch us, this time.”

Now over to you! Do you want us to refine any aspect of the feeling or scene, or did you enjoy it as is? Let us know! 😊
