Sunlight through the leaves, coffee cup in hand - doesn’t get much better than this, does it? Feeling that perfect balance between cozy and chic today, wrapped up in our favorite oversized knit and re...
Okay, let’s do this! Here’s our Monologue - assuming we were photographed sitting here with a glass of wine, perhaps a little bit weary…
“There.” That’s usually where he stands – slight to the left of center, always a little skeptical about the red wine. He never really liked the Merlot, did he? Said it was too easy, too willing to be poured down the side of the glass when no one’s looking. It’s been five years. Five years since the argument over whether or not to send the dog to boarding school, which feels less like a lifetime ago and more like yesterday if you squint and remember the way his hair used to fall across his forehead.
These boots, for instance. Comfortable enough. Ached after last night’s party, though. Probably all those champagne bubbles finding their way into your glass, weren’t they? We didn’t notice much then, not truly. Too busy adjusting our collars, shielding ourselves behind perfectly placed smiles. This cashmere shawl... comfortable, familiar even. Almost makes us forget the chill outside, the one that’s settled deep inside ever since.
You’re staring, aren’t you? Not quite sure why. Maybe it's the light catching the fraying around the edges of the photo album – the wrinkles near your eyes, the faint smudge of lipstick that hasn’t quiteered. Or maybe it’s the look on our face, don’t you think? Not entirely unhappy, certainly not ecstatic. Just…here. A hint of expectancy, maybe. Like we expected things to be simpler back then, easier than choosing between another year at the vineyard or sending the roses out for winter protection.
That little flicker of recognition in your eye when we raiseded the glass earlier. Did you see that? Didn’d think so. Everyone else does. They always seemed to. Well, almost everyone. “So,” we say, tilting our head just so, letting the wine slide down the throat of the glass. "What are you thinking?"
Now, let’s hear from you! Do you want us to delve deeper into the details of the dress, or perhaps explore the feeling behind the gaze? Let us know! 🥂
