Sunlight through the leaves and that perfect vintage dress – feeling like this often! A little bit dreamy, a little bit cozy, perfectly ourselves. Lately it’s all been about those quiet moments, right...

The wool feels scratchy tonight, doesn’t it? Not unpleasant, not really - more… familiar resistance. Like the memory itself. This scarf has been with us for so many winters, hasn’t it? Or perhaps it’s just our winter. A bit greyed around the edges now, definitely seen better days than those ones when we were laughing about it. Now, that was easier to remember. Lessens the cold, doesn’t it?

There’s a smudge of dust on the sleeve – probably yours, actually. Didn’t even notice until you got close. Always did tend to be oblivious, didn’t he? Well, maybe not entirely. We knew each other then, didn’t we? Knew exactly where to find the ache. It's usually there, isn't it? A low hum beneath everything, easily masked by the clink of glasses and too much champagne.

You haven't said anything yet, of course. That’s normal. Never do. Just standing there, aren't you? The light catching the edge of your cheekbone, the way you always liked to tuck one strand of hair behind your ear... almost nostalgic. Like a well-worn photograph.

We weren’t sure what to expect when you came back, all quiet determination and hesitant smiles. Thought we might push you away, terrified of being reminded of something good, afraid of breaking through the years of comfortable distance. Did we? Are we?

That slight frown playing on your lips – likely thinking about whether to admit that, too. Maybe. Probably.

It wasn' t necessarily bad, after all, was it? Just... complicated. And sometimes, when the noise fades, and the world outside shrinks down to these four walls, we can recall the feeling without the guilt. So go ahead, look at us. Look at us now. Let's see if either of us dares to hope."
