The wool feels scratchy tonight, doesn’t it? Not terribly so, not usually. It’s been our wool for fifteen years, hasn’t it? Or maybe longer than that… harder to remember sometimes when everything has edges here, hasn't there? Like these lines around the mouth, barely noticed until now. A little too many good nights, perhaps, or one too few lately.

We haven’t said much, have we? Just stood here, almost, since he shifted his weight back then, a slight shift really, but enough to knock the candle off the mantelpiece all those years ago. Remembered that one, didn’t we? The way the waxered down, slow and predictable. No shouting, no fuss—just the gentle darkness creeping closer.

Here comes another breath, don’ed you think? Bit nervous about letting us get close again. Not afraid, necessarily. More like… wary. Well, why wouldn’t she be? We can be a tricky lot, us women.

So, go ahead. Look at us. At least we’re still here, aren't we? Still wearing the sheepskin, even if it does need reining in every now and then. Go on. Take a deeper look.”

To help us tailor the perfect response, here are some questions:

  • What kind of image are we imagining? (A photo taken during a recent visit? An old family portrait?)
  • How would you rate her overall vibe? (More melancholic? Slightly prickly? )
  • Do you want the monologgue to focus on something specific, such as a particular memory?
