Okay, here’s our take – let’s see!

Here goes…

The cashmere feels familiar, doesn’t it? A little bit worn, maybe, not quite so plushy as it used to be. Not that we noticed much then, back then. Mostly, there was just noise, didn't there? The clinking of glasses, the low hum of expectation, the occasional raised voice - always masked, never really heard. We were good at masking things, weren't we? Us. For years. Until... well, until tonight, hadn’t thought about that for a while.

Now, this happens often enough, does it not? This slight shift in posture, this tightening around the mouth when he speaks. Like we expected something too difficult, something inevitable to break through. He hasn’t said anything yet, has he? Just standing there, all quiet confidence and carefully trimmed beard. Almost smugly certain everything is fine. As if it wasn’t.

Your eyes flickered past him last week, though. Didn’t catch it consciously, perhaps. Subtle thing, human awareness. But you were watching us. And that’s been a long time since anyone truly watched us, hasn’t it? Since him.

This dress, dark blue velvet - comforting, but not smothering. We liked it when it felt like that. It reminds us of autumn evenings, don't you think? When the leaves were turning and the wine was warm. Before the silence started getting so loud.

So, look at us. Or rather, look at us now. Isn’ed know why you're here. Maybe it’s because you remember. Or maybe you simply want a glimpse behind the facade, into the subtle melancholy simmering beneath the surface. Either way, don’t move. Too much potential for disruption already.”

Let us know what you think! Do you agree with the mood established? Would love to hear any thoughts on the prose. 💫

(And of course, show us the picture!)
