The wool is scratchy tonight, isn’t it? Not terribly so – not this night. It hasn’t been all bad, these last few years. Mostly quiet. Comfortable, even. Though sometimes…sometimes comfort feels a little too much like stillness. Like we’ve forgotten to breathe together for a while.

And there you are, aren’t there? Looking back at us, like you should be. Or maybe not. Maybe you were always meant to look away. That brown leather jacket looks good on you, though. Always did. A bit rumpled, perhaps - like everything else after that. Didn't quite manage to capture the chaos then, did we? The way the rain used to smell – wet earth and possibility.

This shawl, well, this one’s softish. Our mother gave it to us, didn’t she? Before the arguments started sounding louder than the music. Remember the music? Everything felt brighter then. Morever, if things had gone differently, more often, we might still be drinking wine by the fire, instead of this rather predictable routine.

Of course, it wasn’t entirely our fault. Too many expectations, weren’t there? Everyone thought we needed fixing. Now, the only question is, do you want to know about the fixings? Do you see it in the lines around my eyes? A trace of amusement, certainly. A hint of impatience. And underneath that, maybe, just maybe, a sliver of hope.
