Sunlight through the leaves and that perfect oversized knit – feeling like we’ve found our little slice of heaven today. A quiet morning spent brewing coffee and letting the world drift by… sometimes ...
The wool is scratchy tonight, isn’t it? Not terribly so – not that bad - but it always was a little bit. This cashmere blend, inherited, naturally. Mother adored it. Said it kept us warm against all the chill in the world except for each other, sometimes. And perhaps she was right.
You haven’t said much, have we? Just stood there, perched on the edge of the room, camera bag slung over your shoulder, probably wondering if you remembered to bring the right film. Probably don't. It’s been…well, let’s say it’s been a while since a light hit quite right. A long time. Likeed those golden hour shots back then, didn't we? All hazy with promise and a hint of wine spilled on the ruget every evening.
See the way my hand rests on the sleeve? Doesn’t look too eager, does it? Mored like a habit than anything, really. We had such lovely habits. The scent of rain on damp pavement, the curl of the fire down by the hearth...and then suddenly, one morning, it wasn’t so obvious anymore. Your shadow seemed less defined, our laughter quieter.
Your eyes were a little wary earlier, weren’t they? A flicker of surprise when we saw each other, disguised as polite curiosity. Maybe a touch of guilt. After all, who doesn’, after ten years?
This gaze feels different though, doesn’t it? Less judgement. Almost…expectant. Like you remember something, maybe even a small joy that slipped away without notice. Or perhaps you’re simply hoping we hadn't completely forgotten about you.
It hasn't been painful, not entirely. Mostly quiet. But a little dust has settled around the edges, hasn’t it? Well, why not ask us to step into the light, then? Let’s see what happens when the light finds us.”
Now it's your turn:
What do you think? Does the feeling come across? Would you like us to tweak any aspect of the writing - perhaps a more specific description of the wardrobe, or a deeper dive into the unspoken history? Let us know! 💫
(And be sure to tell us which version of yourself you thought felt most authentic!)
Do you want us to read another set of observations about the picture?
