Okay, here’s our take – let’s see if we can capture the feeling!

Here’s the Monologue:

“There. Still wearing the blue scarf, then. Not that anyone was watching, really. Just the dust motes dancing in the afternoon light, hadn't there? And perhaps a little bit of resistance to the quietness. Always liked the quiet when he isn’t around, actually - quieter than the arguments were, usually. Though those were worth remembering sometimes, weren’t they?”

We’re staring at your face, aren’t we? A hesitant gaze, most likely. Like you think we might ask about last summer, which, let’s be honest, we probably should have. This cardigan has been doing duty for years – woolly enough to ward off the chill, but not so much that it overwhelms – though tonight, maybe too many creases. Little tightens every time you shift ever so subtly – one foot almost out of frame, haven’t noticed that before, have you?

It’s comfortable, being still. Mostly. A slight tightening in the throat, always present, like trying to hold back a laugh…or a tear. That silver ring on your finger hasn't moved since he left, all smooth and familiar against your skin. He didn’t approve of the scarves, you know. Said they felt a little...showy. Perhaps.

Just watch us. We don’t want to break the spell. It’s nice having someone here, even if they do occasionally remind us of everything that went wrong. Almost feels like we used to remember easily. “So,” we say, tilting head slightly – small sound, doesn’ ‘t it? – "what did you think of the garden?"”
