The wool feels good against the skin, doesn’t it? Not too warm, noticably so anyway. It’s been ages since we noticed if it was ever quite right, hasn’t it? This dress—navy, always navy—a little bit dark perhaps, though it’s been years since anyone dared to say that out loud. More likely just practical. We liked practicality once. Or thought we did.

Now here you are, standing there with those eyes - familiar enough, almost blurry around the edges, like a well-loved photograph. A touch skeptical, definitely. Like you don’t quite believe we remember all the details, all the silences. As if we didn’t entirely forget about them ourselves. A faint smile playing on your lips, hesitant, unsure whether to step closer to the warmth or retreat back into the comfortable cool of the observer’s seat.

We haven’t said anything for a while, have we? Just this quietness...like after the rain, when everyone's dried off except us, maybe. The scent of woodsmoke still hangs in the room – yours, mostly. Did you bring tea? No matter, really. Doesn’ing need to be complicated.

Just look at us, then. See? That flicker of recognition in our gaze. A ghost of a laugh trapped behind the eyes. Maybe even something resembling hope. Now, weren’t we asking you last time if you remembered which side she went to school on…?

So, go ahead. Step a little closer. Let’s see if we can bear the light.”

Notes & Considerations:

  • This one leans towards a melancholic, reflective mood – fitting for an ensemble shot where the sense of past perfection is gently frayed.
  • Lots of detail in the description of the clothing – meant to suggest both comfort and slight restraint.
  • Direct addresses (“you”) are key – keep it personal!

Let us know what you think, and if you want us to refine it, or try another version! Do you like the atmosphere? Would you prefer more or less obvious emotion?
