Sunlight through the leaves and that perfect cozy knit – feeling like this most days! A little bit of city, a whole lot of serenity. Sometimes it’s these simple moments that make all the difference. W...
(The image shows a woman sitting with her legs crossed, comfortably but not entirely relaxed, against a worn velvet chaise longue. She’s wearing an oversized cable knit cardigan over a simple white blouse, one sleevelet rolled up. A half-empty glass of wine sitsleslly. Her eyes are a little distant, perhaps a touch skeptical, yettingly hopeful. Here’s her Monologue):
“There. That’s the one, isn’t it?” We always liked the light in the study then. Dust motes dancing in the afternoon sunbeam - soed to remember him saying it was ‘perfect for sketching’, though we never did much sketching after that. Just…more often than not. It feels like ages ago, doesn’t it? Like it happened behind a curtain, quiet rustle and sudden darkness. Your shoes weren't quite brushed off yesterday, which is nice. Not too fussy, not expecting too much.”
We haven’t asked about the children, not really. Too many questions already, don’t want to scare you off. Or maybe we do. It’s been ten years, almost. Ten years since the silences started stretching longer than necessary, since the tea cups stopped being held perfectly. This cardigan, comfortable, familiar—a shield more than anything, this knitted warmth. Though sometimes, when the wind hits just right, it feels a bit threadbare around the edges."
A faint smile plays on our lips, hasn’t that been long enough? Don’t move, not too quickly. Your gaze drifts back out towards the window, to the rain gently tracing patterns on the glass. Remember the smell of wet earth after he left? It wasn’t unpleasant, not exactly. More wistful. Now, look again. See it, don’t you think? The question hanging in the air, subtle as a whisper. Were we supposed to be lost forever?"
Now, go ahead – let us know what you thought, and what you see! Do you agree with her observation?
