Here goes…

The wool’s starting to fray around the edges, hasn’t it? This cardigan. It always has, really. Like everything else - memories, expectations...well, almost everything. He certainly wasn’t wrong about the colour though, was he? A perfect shade of faded heather grey. Not too obvious, not too trying. Just…comfortable. Usually.

Now, don’t look so surprised. Didn’t think you were completely oblivious. We weren’t exactly graceful leaving, were we? Moredslipped than anything. The rain hadn't stopped for weeks back then, remember? That soggy September, chasing shadows after the last glassie. A little bit dramatic, perhaps, but who didn’t love a touch of drama? Certainly not yourself, not much.

That’s why you’re here, isn’t it? After all these years. A hesitant smile, those curious eyes…like you’ve been wondering where we were, which is, of course, true. It’s been a while since you wondered out loud. Too quiet lately, haven’t we? Too many silences filled with dust motes and the scent of chamomile.

See that slight turn of the mouth? Not quite a grin, more like acceptance. Or maybe a hint of expectation. Did you bring biscuits? Probably not. But that's okay.

We didn’t need fancy things, did we? Just needed each other. And sometimes, when the light caught just right, and the wind outside wasn't howling, we had that. Now, aren’’t you going to say something?”
