Sunlight through the leaves and favorite oversized sweater – that’s what it’s all about! Feeling cozy and content just being here in our little corner of the world. A simple life, beautiful moments… d...
Here’s the Monologue:
“There. Still wearing them, aren’t we?” A slight tilt of the chin, the silk scarf loose around the neck - not quite tied tight enough to banish the chill, perhaps. It’s been ages since anyone noticed the way the light catches the silver thread, anyway. A long time since he noticed. He always did notice, didn’t he? Even when he was infuriatingly oblivious, the man knew where to find us. Though maybe ‘us’ was an illusion then too, wasn’t it? More likely just ourselves, perfectly contained within his gaze.
These boots… these old chestnut boots. Comforting, certainly. They were definitely hers for a while—his mother’s, really. She wouldn't approve of the wear, of course. Too muchished. The dust motes dancing in the afternoon sun hadn’t bothered her, though. Sheer contentment, most of the time. Thatched roofed, by the fireplace, scent of woodsmoke and tea... And him, usually humming quietly, tuning up his cello.
It feels quiet now, doesn’,t it? Not silent, exactly. Just…muted. Like the echo of a laugh heard last week. Or was it months ago? We haven’t spoken about it, obviously. Never do. Too many silences already, weren’t there? Too much guilt draped over everything, like this shawl - cashmere, naturally, butathers than wool sometimes.
Looking at you, though. There’s recognition there, isn’t there? Maybe even a little bit of hope clinging onto those curious eyes. Didn’t see that coming, did you? This visit. Expected it, perhaps, subconsciously. After all, hasn’t it been years since we felt needed? Go on,” we say, tilting head slightly more, “Don’t be shy.”
