Sunlight through the leaves and favorite coffee cup – that’s what it’s all about, right? Feeling cozy and content here in our little corner of the world today, chasing those golden hour glows. Simple ...
The wool is scratchy tonight, isn't it? Not terribly so, not usually - but tonight...it feels like a memory trying to cling too tightly. Likeed when he chose these colors, though didn’t we all? A deep teal, almost blue, perfect for the twilight. And these boots…these wellies were always his idea, weren’t they? Said they kept usenured enough against the dampness. We liked the rain, mostly. The way it muffled everything except the sound of him humming by the fire.
It was just after eleven, wasn't it? Just after he turned away from the whiskey glass, more distracted than annoyed with the dog snoring at our feet. Thatched the edge off of things then, hadn't it? Almost forgot why the silence had started feeling less comfortable each night. Until today, really. When you arrived, bundled up in scarves and hesitant smiles.
We haven't spoken much since, of course. Just a quiet nod earlier, when you adjusted the light—a little too bright perhaps, catching the dust motes dancing around the room. Didn’t want to seem obvious, did we? Too many years ago, too many chances missed.
Now, you’re staring. It hasn't been a stare for ages, has it? More like acceptance, sometimes, a gentle acknowledgement of the stillness. But there', isn’t there? A flicker of something beneath the surface of those eyes, a hint of hope maybe. Or perhaps just the reflection of the flickering candle.
Well, don't stand there gaping then. Let's keep watching, shall we? Let's see if we remember how to breathe without the weight of it all. After all, doesn't it feel good, being noticed? Even now. Maybe. Now, look again."
