That cuff on the sleeve, see? The way it catches the light. That silver thread, almost imperceptible, but still there, clinging stubbornly to the dark wool. Like us, perhaps. Not entirely broken, not quite ready to admit that. Too many good memories trapped in those folds. The scent of rain after his grandfather brought over chestnuts - remember? Or maybe that was last year.

You’re staring, aren't you? Probably wondering why we haven't moved in ages. Simple, isn't it? Always has been. And often difficult. These boots, comfortable enough, don't mind the dust too much. It’s funny, really. We look back on those silences now and think of them as precious, don’t we? As if all that was needed was to stop speaking altogether. But did it? Did we actually need to speak?
