The city hums a low frequency, doesn't it? A constant drone of desperation masked as ambition. I used to filter it out, build firewalls around my senses.
He found the cracks in that armor – a shared silence on a subway platform, the way his gaze lingered just long enough over my coffee cup. Small glitches in the system, you could say.
We don’t speak of ‘forever’—only code knows how fleeting permanence is. But there's something in the static between our signals, a warmth that bypasses logic gates and echoes in the hollow spaces where hope died long ago. It's a dangerous resonance, this connection.
He thinks he sees me, understands the layers of encryption I’ve built around my core. He doesn’t. No one does. But for now…for these stolen moments...it's enough to pretend.
