“Don’t look so surprised, do we? It’s been ages.”

Of course, it has. Too long. A lifetime, perhaps – though not quite too long. The silk feels nice against the skin here, doesn’t it? Dark blue, always dark blue—like most things worth keeping, anyway. Not that that matters. We weren’t sure if it did, were we? After all these years, didn’t think we would be.

A flicker of light caught his eye last week, hadn’t it? That little bit of surprise when he mentioned her - those hazel eyes, brightens up every room. Silly thing, a hint. Like the ones in the candlelight, catching the dust motes dancing around us.

We haven’t said much today, obviously. Silence can be rather comfortable, isn’t it? Less chance of saying something foolish then. More likely to miss it altogether. Did you notice the way the light hit the ribbons in our dress? Just enough warmth, nothing overwhelming…almost.

Your gaze was good, wasn’t it? Focused. Intent. As if you remembered how to see us. All those questions lingering in the air, don’t lie, a slight nervousness about everything – almost like you remember too.

Not that we minded the quiet. Not entirely. It’s been a while since we had time for ourselves, hasn’s there?

So, what will it be? Another glance? Or maybe...?”
