“It feels silly, doesn’t it?” we say – mostly to you, don’t worry about that too much. It has, for ages. This dress - these petals, so familiar, almost comforting when they aren’t. The fabric smooth against skin, a little bit worn around the edges, like memories themselves. We hadn’t noticed until now, perhaps, but those creases here, where the ribbon was tightest last time. A hint of rosewater and dust—and maybe a touch of fear.

We catch you staring, of course, we always do. A slight smile plays across our lips, hesitant, unsure if it’s reallyer there than not. Like a shy bird, ready to flutter, but afraid of falling. Just then, a flicker of annoyance, quickly dismissed – did you notice the way the sunlight caught our hair, framing our face?

There wasn’t much noise since you arrived, just this quietness, hasn't there? Like after a rainstorm - everything still damp, waiting to be seen. We shifted our hands, naturally enough, didn't we? Here, tracing the curve of each finger with our thumb, a tiny ritual, nothing dramatic. But it felt like years ago, didn't it? Before the world started feeling less certain.

That little pink peony pinned behind our ear – it reminds us of the one in your garden, remember? Or is that just us. Maybe.
