The Coffee Stain & The Concert
The Picture: A slightly blurry shot of two hands - a man’s hand holding a coffee cup, a woman’s hand reaching to brush away a small but noticeable coffee stain on her favorite sweater. Both are smiling subtly.
Scene: A bustling street corner outside “La Note Parfaite,” a cozy jazz club in Paris. It’s late afternoon; golden light is starting to fade into dusk.
(SCENE START)
SOUND: Jazzy music drifts from inside the club, mingled with the clatter of silverware and chatter.
LIAM (32), handsome but perpetually rumpled – maybe a little too much caffeine here – holds his Frenchie pastry (a croissant!) precariously, trying not to spill anything while he navigates through the crowd. He’s been coming to La Note Parfaite every week for months now, determined to take his cousin, FINN (19) – all bright eyes and teenage angst – out of their comfort zone.
Suddenly, chaos! Liam turns around just as ELISE (30) – effortlessly chic in a simple blue dress – nearly collides with them, juggling a stack of sheet music and a glass of wine. One-by-one, the sheets tumble…and then, disaster!
A splash of red wine – which quickly becomes a satisfyingly charming coffee stain on Finn's favorite sweater (which was also being used as a seat).
Liam stumbles back, clutching his hot chocolate, looking guilty...until he sees the smile on Elise’s face. She’s laughing, a beautiful, genuine laugh, and she looks utterly adorable even with the faint smudge of red on her cheek.
ELISE: (In accented English) "Don't worry! Happens to everyone."
LIAM: (Smiling, relieved) “Just part of the adventure.”
But then, the waiter arrives, a bit frazzled by himself, and jostles Liam again, sending the hot chocolate splashing onto his shirt. This time, no one seems to care quite so much.
Cut to weeks later. Same spot, same sounds. They're regulars at La Note Parfait now. We see glimpses of how they got there – a shared glance over the table, an accidental touch of hands when grabbing for the last baguette, a comfortable silence between them during the saxophone solo.
This time, it's Liam's turn to be clumsy. While reaching for the cheese platter, he knocks over his coffee cup – a perfect, ish pattern of liquid splashed across the table. Everyone laughs except Finn, who doesn't want to break the spell.
Elise gently brushes the coffee off her sleeve, righting the almost-toppling glasses, and smiles at Liam.
As she does, her fingers accidentally brush against his hand, hers warm, his cool. Their gazees lock.
It's subtle, intimate, hopeful.
FINN (VOICEOVER): You know, we didn't even notice the coffee stain."
Back to the present. They smile, a little shyly this time.
Now, back to the picture. Here they were, perfectly imperfect, both hands holding a mug, each other's hearts – and perhaps, the promise of something special brewing.
