Here goes…

“There. That was close. Not too much wine last time, did we think? Probably not. It always felt like there were rules, didn’t it? Always silent ones, lurking behind the clink of glasses, the easy laughter. Like ‘Don’t mention the rain,’ or ‘Definitely don’t mention the rain.’ It's been years, hasn't it? Since that night, anyway. The one where he forgot to pack his slippers.”

We were so sure then, weren’t we? About everything. Ached sometimes, certainly, those familiar aches of being slightly lost, but mostly contented. Now… well, now it feels more like a quiet question mark. Looking at you, though. It’s never quite awkward, is it? More like a hesitant memory trying to find its colour.

This sweater – favorite. Soft, comforting, almost oblivious to the messiness. And these rings – little reminders of celebrations, of course. Three silver hoops for the wedding anniversary, the sapphire ring when the gallery finally took a chance on us. Feel that faint scent of woodsmoke clinging to the wool? We used to love coming here after a walk in the woods, remember?

Your gaze isn'ed harshing our mood, not today. Just observant. Maybe a bit hopeful. Or maybe you simply enjoy watching us fumble around a little, convinced we still haven't quite put things back exactly right. “So,” we say, tilting our head ever so subtly, “what do you think?”

Let’s be honest, wasn’t all perfect, even if we didn’t admit it often enough. This cigarette, a small indulgence – the smoke curls upwards, drifting away into the space between us. Another puff, another breath. Let’s breathe together for a minute. Just for a minute, without needing any answers. Now, light’s ours."

How does that sound? Do you want us to tweak anything, or dive deeper into the details of the scene? 😊

Would you like us to try another version of the monologue, perhaps focusing on different aspects of the visual elements? Let us know! 💫
