The wool’s scratchy tonight, isn’t it? Not horribly so – it always was ours, really, wasn't it? A little bit rough around the edges, much like… well, everything. You haven’t said anything for five minutes, which is either brilliant or infuriating. Most often, it has been. Five minutes is a lifetime when you’re not sure if he knows about the wine, too. Burgundy, remember? He thought we had Sauvignon Blanc – perfectly respectable, but lacked that certain something.

Your eyes are here, aren’t they? Always here, hovering just outside the periphery of the quietness. Like you weren’t quite brave enough to step into the darkness behind our shoulders then, didn’t want to admit there was even a shadow. We were good at those shadows, though, weren't we? Huddled together in them, warm against each other, oblivious to the rain hammering against the windowpanes almost all the time.

This scarf... cashmere, obviously. Mother loved her cashmere. She’d approve of the colour, probably. Too dark, perhaps. Bit dramatic. That’s us, isn’ the view? Slightly dramatic. It wasn’t always bad, did it? The leaving, anyway. Just felt sudden, didn’t it? Like a snapped twig, beautiful and sharp.

Now look at you. A hint of hesitation in the way you tilt your head, like you’re still wondering if we ever truly minded. Well, maybe we did. But who’s remembering that now? Probably not. So, go ahead. Take another one of our pictures. Let the light catch the dust motes dancing in the gloom. And don’t blink.”

Notes & Considerations:

  • We imagined a fairly wistful, subtly melancholic persona - comfortable with solitude, a touch prickly but secretly yearning.
  • The details matter - the texture of the clothing, the subtle emotion in the posture.
  • It encourages introspection – “What happens next?”

To help refine things, would you like us to focus more on a particular aspect of the picture, such as:

  • A specific memory mentioned?
  • Her feeling about the past?
  • How she perceives the observer?
