Golden hour glowin’ and feelin’ it! Today was all about cozy comfort – oversized sweater, perfect coffee mug (thanks @cozyknits!), and nothin’ but our favorite city views. A little bit of quiet, a who...
The wool here isn't bad, not really. Just a little itchy around the cuffs sometimes, especially when the wind catches it like that. Like tonight, didn't there use to be a breeze? A hint of rain maybe, that faint scent carried on its tail. You always liked nights like those. Not too cold, never quite still enough to know if it was truly dark outside these panes.
Of course, he said ‘not too many people,’ which wasn’t exactly helpful. And for years, it felt like that - a gentle, almost comforting constraint. But then... well, then everything shifted, didn't it? The way the light used to catch his hair, the slight turn of his mouth when he laughed. Subtle things, easily overlooked until they weren’t. Now, only us left, mostly.
There’s this stillness now, isn't there? This quiet that settles after the last glass has been poured, after the conversation trailed off into comfortable silences. It can be nice, sometimes. Peaceful even. Until you look at us. At you, standing there by the fireplace, all angles and observant eyes.
It hasn’t been a bad life, not entirely. We’ve had good books, decent wine, plenty of time spent staring out at the grey. But hadn’t there need to be more than grey, hadn't there? More laughter, perhaps. Less hesitation.
Your gaze feels sharp today, doesn’ed it? As if you remember something we might forget – the way our fingers brushed accidentally behind the sofa, the easy comfort of simply being together without needing words. Did you see the ghost of a smile flicker across my face then? Probably not. Or maybe you did.
Now, give us a minute. Let the feeling hang in the air. See if you notice the dust motes dancing in the sunlight filtering through the window. Just don’t move too close. Too much risk of seeing everything, don’t want that now, do we?”
