Here we are then. Not quite a surprise, not really – more like an expected quietness had settled in for a while, hadn’t there? Thatched to the edges with dust, perhaps, of expectations that never truly were. This dress… well, it was Dad’s favorite color. Navy blue, always felt a bit masculine, didn’t it? A little too sturdy sometimes, like him. And these boots, sensible, naturally. Always been about practicality, haven't we? Never one to fuss over much.

We weren’t meant to be standing here, were we? Just…here. Outside the kitchen door, mostly. The scent of simmering lamb tonight, if you’d noticed. Comforting, familiar. Probably both, of course.

That slight frown lately – did you see it? Subtle, but it’s there. Like a question mark clinging to the edge of your mouth. Are you wondering why we don't say anything? Or so sure we do?

Well, maybe. Maybe we’ve simply forgotten how to ask. Now, smile then, don't be shy...It feels like ages since you smiled. Now, look at us. Still here. Isn'—"

Notes:

  • The imagery leans towards a somewhat melancholic, almost stoic mood.
  • There’s definitely a hint of nostalgia and longing.
  • A touch of wry self-awareness - she knows she can be a bit stubborn!
