The wool feels scratchy tonight, doesn’t it? Not unpleasant, not really – it always has, hasn’t it? That particular warmth, familiar comfort against… well, everything else. Your eyes were certainly bright when you arrived, weren't they? A little hesitant, naturally. It had been a while.

We used to know exactly where we stood, didn't we? The way the light caught his hair then, perfect angles, effortlessly casual. Now...now there's just dust motes dancing in the low afternoon sun, the scent of cedarwood from the bookcase behind us, and these quiet silences, don’t there? Like the one after he left, of course.
