The silk’s a bit creased tonight, isn’t it? Not much of an effort made with the hair either – not that he would have noticed, really. Probably too busy adjusting his tie. It was always about the tie, wasn’t it? Thatched perfectly for years, until it all started to feel…well, expected. Likeed wine, predictable dinners, comfortable silences often masking little else than polite indifference. And us, drifting further apart without ever quite having the courage to admit it.

You’re standing there, aren’t you? A little hesitant. Always were, maybe. Remember when we used to laugh more easily at those awkward moments? Now it’s mostly just this quietness. This constant questioning of whether to even bother turning around. We haven't spoken properly in weeks, not since the argument – over the catht which, of course, was never actually about the catch, was it? More like a silent agreement to keep things comfortably numb.

See the way your hand rests on the camera lens? Nervous habit, probably. But then, didn’t everything fall into a sort of welling routine after all? Still, feels like ages since he last held us close. Not that we minded too much, did we? Too much of a good thing can dull the senses, certainly.

That slight turn of the mouth, that hint of amusement in the eyes...it hasn’t been completely extinguished, has it? Not yet. Just a flicker. You almost look surprised when we glance back. Perhaps a trace of hope. Or perhaps you simply want reassurance that we haven’ed forgotten each other entirely.
