Golden hour glowin’ and feelin’ it! Lately, everything just feels…right. A cozy sweater, a warm drink (obviously!), and maybe a little bit of that perfect city rain – this has been our week, hasn’t it...

The silk feels cool against bare skin, doesn’t it? Not that cold - more… comfortable. A familiar comfort, perhaps. Though, maybe not for years. We haven’t quite settled on ‘years,’ have we? Just “since.” Like the last time he visited, really. Such a predictable distance since then. A little too much coffee in his mug these days, don’t think he notices. Probably not.

Here, in the light, everything looks simpler. The way the dust motes dance off the afternoon sun streaming through the window, the slight fraying of the edges on this skirt – nothing butnessed, all of it. It was always about the details with him, wasn’t it? Too many details. Remember when he used to fuss over the angle of the scarf? Silly thing, most likely had it wrong anyway. This one has been ours ever since, hasn’t it? This cardigan...bit worn, bit frayed around the cuffs.

Your eyes aren’t quite as sharp as you used to be. Maybe that’s why you didn’t notice us staring until now. Perhaps you thought we were simply admiring the view, oblivious, content even. Well, mostly. And there’—a flicker of recognition. Good.

We weren’t always so quiet, were we? Used to laugh more easily. Before the rain, definitely before the rain. That storm, remember? Didn’t know where it came from, only knew it soaked us both to the bone.

Now look at you, standing there a little awkwardly, hand almost reaching out. Nervous, aren’t you? Always were. Isn’t that nice? Don’t move too fast though, we’re still getting used to each other, afterall. Now, smile. Do you see it? That ghost of a smile on our face?"
