The wool feels scratchy tonight, doesn't it? Not unpleasant, not really – more…familiar friction. Like a well worn habit, one you probably don’t even notice we still have. It certainly hasn't noticed your arrival. We haven't spoken for nearly six months, though everyone else seems to think it was only yesterday. Six months since the scent of rain and woodsmoke faded too quickly.

This dress...a bit much perhaps. Your mother always said so - ‘A touch dramatic, darling,’ she’d purr, twirling her glass of sherry. And maybe she had a point. A little extravagant for a Thursday evening, wouldn’t you say? But then again, things tend to be with us, don’t they? Everything has been a little tilted, a little tipped over the edge ever since.

You’re standing there, all shoulders and quiet observation, aren’t you? A slight furrowed brow, judging the lighting as usual. Probably wondering if we remembered to put away the last of the wine. Didn't bother, did we? That old chestnut, didn’t expect us to.

We were laughing, weren’t we? Just before the argument, before the silent agreement to drift apart. The way the light caught your hair that night, all tousled curls and golden dust. Such beautiful chaos. And now, here you are, hesitant, curious. Almost hopeful.

It' “just” a bit chilly, isn’t it? Go ahead, move closer. Let’s see those eyes—not that many questions need answering. Not yet. Though, do try to smile. It’s been ages since you saw ours.”

Now, let’s know what you think! Do you like the atmosphere? Is it evocative enough? Would you like us to refine it further?
