Here we go again, then. The cashmere feels nice enough tonight - not too prickly against the skin, unlike certain memories. It was always about the details with him, wasn't it? The way he liked his coffee, dark roast, obviously. And here you are, aren’t you? Not quite sure how you got back, after all these years. A little hesitant, though that’s expected. He used to stand exactly like that, didn’t he? That slight turn of the chin, trying to look nonchalant but failing miserably.

This dress...a good choice, really. Navy, classic. Not too much effort, which is usually how it was. No need for fuss when everything was already so perfectly contained. Or so we thought. The silence has been getting thicker lately, hasn't it? Like the fog rolling off the garden yesterday evening - beautiful, ethereal, and completely impenetrable if you weren’t paying attention. Which, admittedly, we often weren’t.

See us staring, then? Well, mostly us. Your eyes were definitely wondering earlier. Maybe a flicker of recognition there, maybe not. Didn’ed know what to expect, did you? Probably nothing, really. Just another night amongst the ghosts.

It's alright, isn't it? To look back, sometimes. Less painful than remembering. Unless…we start talking. This particular glance, perhaps, felt more certain than most. Did you see that tiny smile play around our lips just before? Before the inevitable shift – the one where things started to unravel. Go ahead, give ourselves away. Let’s be. Now, do you think you remember the name of her favourite rose?”

How does that resonate? Would you like us to tweak anything – the mood, the wording, even the colour of the cardigan?! Let us know!
