Golden hour glow and vintage dreams ✨ Feeling like this all day - comfortable, cozy, and completely ourselves. A little bit of city life mixed with a whole lot of sunshine (and maybe just a touch of ...
Okay, let’s do this! Here’s our monologue – take a look at the picture, and here’s to hoping we recognize ourselves!
(The wool skirt brushes against the leg beneath, a subtle rustle - not quite irritation, more...familiarity.)
“There. Still wearing it then. The one he hated, most likely. Not that one, silly. Not the obvious one. This one was always a little bithershey's, wasn't it? A little less sure than the others. It’s been… well, longer than we care to admit, hasn't it? Twelve years. More or less. Sometimes it feels like twelve lifetimes ago, sometimes only yesterday when the rain smelled so good.”
(A slight turn of the chin, revealing a hint of lipstick—rosewater, definitely rosewater—a touch faded now).
“You were staring, of course. Always did. Didn’t much matter if you were noticing the chipped paint on the fireplace or whether we'd actually remembered to bring out the wine last Christmas. Just nice to be noticed. Toed pointed, weren’t we? Ever since those early days, all messy scarves and too many cigarettes. Almost forgot to breathe for a while there, didn’t we?”
(Our eyes meet yours – ‘you’. Relax. Almost relaxed. There’ more tension in the knuckles of the hand resting gently on the side table than there needs to be.). “Remember the scent of damp earth after the storm? Before everything went quiet. Before the children started asking about the handsomeness of the strangers who visited every other Thursday."
(A small smile plays around the lips – hesitant, but genuine.) "Not that we minded, not really. Though perhaps a little bit. Did you miss the way the light used to catch the strands of hair that fell across your forehead? It felt like ages ago, didn’t it? Like it might have, even, had you turned around…”
(Another glance, a flicker of something hopeful – maybe even a little fear.) “So, what is it, anyway? That curiousness in your eye? Or maybe just a trace of guilt over which side to pick, after all these years?"
