The silk feels good against the skin, definitely warmer than tonight's air, which has been feeling rather cold lately - a nice contrast to the chill in your gaze. It’s a beautiful shade of emerald green, this dress – inherited, naturally – though sometimes itches a bit, doesn’t it? Like memory does.”
We were laughing then, weren’t we? A small sound, easily missed amongst the jazz and the champagne bubbles, but there it was. Before the drinks, before the inevitable argument about whether the pianist wasn't quite hitting his stride. Before he left, with such graceful indifference, of course. Like always.
Your eyes are narrowed again, aren’t they? A hint of irritation, maybe even... well, annoyance. We used to call it ‘knowing’. Such a lovely word, when it hadn't felt so much like obligation. "Too flamboyant," you probably thought, nodding politely during the lastest round of bills. “Always had to be seen.”
It hasn’t felt that way all night, necessarily. Just these moments. This quietness. Almost comfortable, almost. ”
A slight tilt of the head, a subtle turn of the wrist showcasing the bracelet – a gift, of course, also perfectly poised – and the light catches the silver,inesterable.
