“There. That’s the one.” It’s always that one, isn’t it? Not necessarily wrong – not much has been for quite some time, hasn’t there? Just quietly slipping away, most things. The way he used to stand - all shoulders and angles, bracing against the world. Like that, except mored withering lately. Notice the cable knit today, though. A little fussy perhaps, these days – too many stitches, maybe, a bit too conscious of keeping warm. Our favorite brown, still – dependable, familiar. Though sometimes, those needles seem to be tightening a little, don't they?

It’s quiet, then. Always was, really, when we were together. But the rain last night felt louder than usual, didn't it? Dripped down the windowpane, slow and persistent, almost inviting us to notice. Almost invited us to remember. And that laugh, faintly remembered - did you hear it? Just a ghost of it in his voice when he cleared his throat earlier.

You’re staring, aren’ by the way. Not overtly, but definitely there. Probably thinking about the light – it was good yesterday, wasn't it? Golden hour. And maybe wondering if we’ve finally got it right this time. Or maybe you're just tired of asking.

We haven’t said anything for ages. Too afraid, perhaps, of breaking something already subtly fractured. Or maybe brave enough. Look closer at the picture in our eyes – that spark flickered once after all, didn’t it?

So, look again. At the dress, at the hair, at the hint of weariness around the edges. At the gaze, which feels less certain each day, doesn't it? This questioning look we give you – a silent question, every time – ‘Do you miss her?’ Do we miss her?”
