(The wool scarf feels particularly scratchy tonight, doesn't it?) A little too much merino, perhaps, always needing to be a touch more elegant than comfortable. It’s not bad, of course, nothing ever truly is when it’s ours - though haven't there been enough nights where it wasn't. Those dark green eyes of yours, though, aren't so sure about that. They’ve certainly noticed the stillness lately, hasn’t which can be nice sometimes. We didn’t need much noise then, did we? Just each other. Well, mostly us.

There was the scent of rain, last time you visited – damp earth and something faintly masculine, like woodsmoke after a good fire. Remember those fires? Noted, of course. Everyone remembers the fire. But you’re standing there now, all shoulders and hesitant smiles, almost afraid to catch sight of the ghost of a smile returning to our face. Like you think we might actually admit things, if only you looked closely enough.

This shawl, for instance. It's cashmere, naturally. Your favorite color, blue. Almost forgot, really. A small detail, easily overlooked. Still, you look at it with such curiosity, don’t you? As if the softness itself holds some hidden meaning.

Maybe it does. Maybe it means we liked being wrapped up once. Before the wind came along and blew most of it away. Now, just you, a bit of warmth, and the lingering feeling that maybe, just maybe, everything will be alright... if we allow ourselves to believe it. And if you dare to take another photo."

What do you think? Let us know if you want us to tweak it! 😊

Now, over to you - what's your favourite element of the monologue?
