The silk feels cool against bare skin, doesn't it? A slight breeze always seems to find its way through these linen curtains, even when there isn't one - hasn’t there been one for years, really? Just this subtle shimmer, this constant reminder of something almost remembered. We used to talk about the rain more, didn’t we? The silvered leaves, the smell of wet earth after he’d finally agreed to take the umbrella. It was such an effort sometimes, him being so certain everything had to be right.
Here you are then, aren’t you? Not quite sure if it’s welcome, this gaze. Doesn't seem entirely surprised, not yet anyway. Which is good. We haven’t exactlyched up expectations since... well, since last time. That night by the lake, remember? Too much wine, too little fear. Or perhaps it wasn't enough. This shawl, though, this cashmere has always felt comforting. Heavy, yes, but familiar. Like a favourite cardigan worn for comfort. Perhaps a bit smugly comfortable, maybe. There’- no need to admit it out loud.
