Okay, here’s our first attempt! Here’s the picture - let us know if you think we captured the feeling perfectly –

[Image: A photo of a woman sitting comfortably but not quite relaxed, leaning back with one leg crossed over the other. She’s wearing a chunky knit cardigan over a simple white shirt, her hair is loose and flowing, and she has a slight smile playing on her lips. Her eyes are half closed.]

Here’s the Monologue:

“Ah, there you are then.” It’s not exactly a shout, is it? More… muted. Like the wool of this cardigan for most of the time, anyway. Soft enough to be comfortable, certainly, though sometimes a little too easy to slip into a sort of quiet gloom. It was a niceish dinner last night, mostly. Not too many questions asked about the cats, which is always good. Though she did glance across at the wine glass every five minutes, didn’t she? As if expecting something to spill.

This position...comfortable, really. One foot up, world outside just out of reach. This sweater, it knows its job well - keeps the chill off without being clingy. Almost forgot to notice you weren’t staring, all things considered. Did he mention his new car? Probably. Doesn’t matter much, does it? Too late to worry now.

That tiny twitch in your lip when we said ‘good’. Small thing, perhaps. Just a memory trying to break through, maybe. Or could be the way the light hits your cheekbone – reminds you of summer, doesn’,t it? Summer after the rain. We used to laugh so easily then. Before the silence started to settle, almost permanently.

A bit of a smile, isn't that? The edges of it were starting to fray, hadn’t they? All these years, haven’t we been happy? But it felt…distant, sometimes. So far away. Well, here you are. No need to rush, no need for declarations. Just look at you. And us. Perhaps tonight wasn’t such a bad evening after all…”

Now it’s your turn! Let us know what you thought. Do you want us to refine any part of the writing? Is there anything else you would like us to consider? Would you like us to try another photo? 😊

Let us know!
