“There.” That’s always where there was, wasn’t it? Just a little bit more certainty than last time, perhaps. Not quite ‘here’, not yet. See those fingers, tucked so perfectly into the cardie? It's been a while since we noticed each other that effortlessly, hasn’t it? A lifetime ago, maybe, when the rain smelled less like damp wool and more like possibility.

We weren’t complaining then, were we? Just...watching. Watching the way the sunlight caught his eyelashes, watching the wine stain slowly claim the tablecloth, watching the quiet drift of years. But oh, the feeling, hadn’t there? Like everything could hang in the balance of one too many words. Or none at all.

Now it’s quieter. This room has always felt familiar, though. Comfortable, even. Though sometimes, isn’ed that comfort feels a little too much like routine? We don’t usually look like this, do we? Not quite like this. Less brittle these days, certainly. Remember that time he spilled the coffee and we didn’t yell for three whole minutes?

See, your eye caught ours. Only for a fraction of a second, but enough. A hint of surprise, definitely. Maybe a touch of hope. Are you brave enough to admit it? Didn't think so. Let the stillness settle. Feel the warmth of the shawl, the softness of the silk against your skin.

It’s alright to be a little hesitant. After all, it's taken a long time to get back to this place, haven't there? Now, just breathe deep, and watch us. And maybe, just maybe, tonight the silence won’t feel so silent."
