“Don’t stare quite so,” we say, don’t we? It's been ages since anyone truly did. Just…don’t look away too quickly. This lace, for example – feels softer than it should sometimes, doesn’t it? Like silk against skin, but with a hint of something familiar about each crease, each little imperfection. We didn’t notice it much then, all those years ago, when everything was happening. The way light caught in the dust motes, the scent of roses after rain...most things were blurry, if you think about it.

It wasn't always obvious, was it? Not even to ourselves. We thought it was us, naturally shy, holding back, afraid to admit which petal fell off. A sigh here, a hesitant smile there— everyone else thinks its cute, though. But lately, these days more often, it’s felt quiet. Almost too quiet. More silent than usual, maybe. Was that a flicker in your eyes, yes or no? Didn’t seem to notice.

Just remember the way the sunlight used to catch them - your eyelashes. They weren’t always so dark. And perhaps, most importantly, don’s be frightened. Here comes another one now…”
