The wool feels scratchy tonight, doesn’t it? Not terribly so - not yet anyway. It used to be soft, remember? Like badger fur after a good rain. Now it’s more…resistant. Just like everything lately, isn’t it? We haven’t said much since you arrived, of course. That’s been the pattern for a while now hasn’t it? A little too many years ago perhaps. Didn’t think about that until you shifted your weight then, didn’t we? Subtle shift, of course. Nothing dramatic. But noticeable.

This dress, well, it was meant to be easy. Silk, yes, but with a certain resilience. The one that stood up when the wind picked up during those summer evenings by the lake, back when...well, back when things felt less like wading through honeyed gloom. This blue, it’s deep, isn't it? Almost navy, if you squint. Like the twilight often was. And these boots—a bit worn around the heel, naturally. We weren’t fools, were we? Though sometimes, late at night, when the fire had died down and the world outside sounded far away, we did question whether we’d overdone the wine.

You’re staring, aren't you? Not overtly, just…observing. As if you expected us to speak, all these years later, and maybe, just maybe, you thought we might. Or perhaps you simply want confirmation that we hadn’t forgotten exactly which side your favorite chair was on.

It’s funny, isn’’t it? How familiar something can seem, and yet always remain just out of reach. Look at you there, a flicker of warmth in those eyes, hesitant almost. Perhaps you don’t expect much, do you? Maybe just for us to admit it wasn't entirely our fault. So go ahead, breathe a little deeper. Let the silence settle. For once, let yourself believe that perhaps, just possibly, we still know how.”

Now, lets hear what you think! 😊
