Like catching a glimpse of ourselves in a still pond - familiar enough to not be entirely afraid, yet with traces of something reflected back that doesn't quite belong. It was a good shot, really. The light had been nice yesterday, hadn’t it? Not too bright, not too dim – perfect for watching him wander, without ever needing to admit how perfectly.

This jacket, of course. Always this jacket. Comfortable, reliable. Probably a bit worn around the cuffs these days, much like everything else. It smells faintly of woodsmoke and rain, memories mostly, though sometimes a hint of lavender – your scent used to linger, didn't it? Or maybe that was just yours.

You look a little unsure yourself, don't you? Less so than last time, perhaps. That flicker of surprise when we smiled – almost forgotten how to do that, haven'” We trace the curve of our index finger along the buttoned cuff, a small gesture, easily overlooked.
