The Coffee Shop Crush - A Romance Story
The Picture: A photo of two people – ELARA (28), with tousled brown hair and slightly oversized glasses, happily sipping coffee in a cozy cafe, completely absorbed in their books, oblivious to everything around them.
Scene: Cozy Cafe – Day.
Sounds of gentle jazz music drift through “The Bean Sprout,” a charmingly cluttered café tucked away down a cobbled street. Sunlight streams in, catching dust motes dancing above shelves lined with well-loved books.
ELARA (28) is nestled into a comfy armchair, brow furrowed in concentration as she turns a page of her worn copy of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude.’ Sheaves of dark chocolate crumbs adorn her top—a testament to an earlier, delicious indulgence. She's perfectly content, utterly lost in the magical realism.
Then, he walks in… or rather, they walk in.
LIAM (30) – handsome but not overly so, a hint of rumpled charm about him – carries a stack of art books and a slight air of quietness. He scans the room, a small smile playing on his lips.
He spots Elara’s table – mostly empty except for her book and a half-finished latte. No harm done.
For a moment, there's a near miss when Liam’s elbow brushes hers as he navigates towards the counter. Elara barely notices, distracted by a particularly evocative sentence.
But then, a dropped pen.
A classic. A simple, everyday mishap. It rolls across the wooden floor, right between her and her mug...and almost onto Liam's foot.
They both reach for it at the same time – fingers nearly touching. A tiny spark.
“Sorry!” laughs Elara, a little shyly, after grabbing the pen. "Bit clumsy today."
"Not at all," replies Liam, equally relaxed. His voice has a pleasant rumble. “More likeen route.”
Now comes the subtle challenge. They don’!t make eye contact! They haven't consciously made eye contact since the Pen Incident. But every now and then, eyes flick over, linger for a beat too long, and finally connect.
Here's where the camera focuses – on their hands. Their mugs have been resting close together for ages, but noone noticed. Now, our heroes here take a sip of their hot drinks.
Suddenly, a shared laugh. They were both engrossed in their own worlds, perhaps, until this point.
Later, as they settle back into their reading, a crumb from her biscotti drifts off her plate and lands directly on Liam's sleeve.
He doesn’t notice. Or does he?
Turns out, he did.
As he gently flicks it off with his finger, their fingers brush again. This time, they don’t hesitate. Their brows meet. Smiles bloom.
Fade Out.
(Close up on their linked fingers.)
